Bombardier Beer Launches Bang On! Guide to Golf

Bedford brewery Wells & Young’s announced today the launch of a new series of online ‘Bang On Guides’ featuring The Bombardier.

Reprising his role as William Charles Bedford, The Bombardier, comedy legend Rik Mayall stars in the first video since the campaign launched in May with a TV advert. The ‘Bang On Guides’ feature The Bombardier taking viewers on a ‘how-to’ adventure for a variety of sports and hobbies.

Launched to coincide with The Open Championship this week, the first ‘Bang On! Guide’ is The Bombardier’s Guide to Golf. From improving the length of your drive to placing your balls correctly, The Bombardier shows golf fans how to perfect their game in his own unique, charming and Bang On! way.

Marketing director, Chris Lewis, says: “The Bombardier campaign has so far been absolutely Bang On! The advert has been on TV over 3,000 times in the last eight weeks, we have had over a quarter of a million views on our YouTube Channel, interactions with the Bombardier on Facebook and Twitter are soaring, and our customers, consumers and even fellow brewers have told us how much they love the advert. Importantly the campaign is having a positive impact on sales with sales in May and June ahead of last year’s performance.

“With longer online content throughout the summer months and some highly targeted TV spots, we will be growing the Bombardier’s fame and popularity ready for a larger scale return to TV at the end of the year.”

Additional Bang On Guides featuring The Bombardier will be released throughout the summer.

The Bombardier character, also known as William Charles Bedford, is a Bombardier in the King’s Royal Bedfordshire’s. Historically, Bombardier is a rank used in artillery units in the armies of countries in the Commonwealth.
