Eagle Beer Makes Its Mark At The Bedford Blues

29th October 2010

The spectator stand at Goldington Road, home of the Bedford Blues, will be officially renamed as the Eagle Stand this Friday evening (29 October).

The renaming of the stand is the final part in the jigsaw of Eagle beer’s major sponsorship of the Bedford Blues, which has already seen the installation of eye-catching signs at Goldington Road, new shirt designs and a number of promotions of the beer to Bedford Blues fans.

Chairman of Wells and Young’s brewery, Paul Wells, will be guest of honour of Geoff Irvine, chairman of Bedford Blues, on Friday night, as the stand officially opens during the match against London Welsh which is being shown live on Sky.

In advance of the renaming, Paul Wells said: “Both Eagle beer and the Bedford Blues are at the heart and soul of Bedford. We are really proud for Eagle to be supporting our hometown’s premier rugby team, and by renaming the stand the Eagle stand, we hope this will resonate with beer lovers and rugby fans alike. We are proud to call Bedford our hometown – after all, we’ve been brewing in Bedford now for over 100 years, and all our beers are brewed with naturally accredited mineral water from the well which our founder, Charles Wells, sunk in the heart of Bedford in the early 1900s.”

Geoff Irvine added: "We are extremely pleased to continue our long standing relationship with Wells and Young’s. Bedford Blues are proud to have such a strong association with a local brand as significant as ‘Eagle’ here at Goldington Road.”

The Bedford Blues are currently third in the Championship behind Worcester and London Welsh. A win on Friday will see the Blues move to second place in the Championship table with ten games played.
