Wells Eagle Supporting Local Community Events

12th July 2012

Local brewer Wells and Young’s has been unveiled as a major sponsor of the Bedford River Festival taking place in the town on 21st and 22nd July 2012.

The Festival is held every other year and is the second largest regular outdoor event in the UK after the Notting Hill Carnival, attracting crowds of up to 250,000. Wells and Young’s has become a regular sponsor over a number of years and will headline its activity through the Wells Eagle brand.

“Bedford is a vibrant town and, as a major employer in the area, we want to encourage community events that support the local economy and give residents a reason to be proud of their home” commented Wells and Young’s Managing Director Nigel McNally.

“Wells Eagle is commonly known as the Beer of Bedford so it’s only right that it plays a central role in this years River Festival. There’ll be a number of bars on site stocking a range of our beers but we’ll also be promoting the Eagle Ale Trail which gives visitors the opportunity to enjoy a pint of Eagle in some of the best pubs in town.”

The Bedford River Festival crowns an exciting month in which the Olympic Torch has also been paraded through the towns’ streets and along the picturesque embankment. Bedford was recently announced as one of the ‘Portas Pilots’, receiving funding to invigorate the town centre and will also host the Bedfringe comedy Festival prior to many acts appearing at the Edinburgh Festival.

“There’s so much happening in Bedford” continued McNally “with Wells and Young’s right at the heart of the activity. As a sponsor of the River Festival and Bedfringe, we’ll be helping to bring premium events to the community that mirror our own commitment to quality and customer service. Our staff are largely based in the local area and many will be involved in this summers celebrations so we look forward to supporting them and their community in such a practical way.”

The Bedford River Festival is centred on the River Great Ouse and features raft races, dragon boat racing, displays from local community groups, live music and a parade of floats drawn from the local area. Full details of the event are available at www.bedford.gov.uk/riverfestival.
