Young's Launches New Beer for Cask Ale Week

27th January 2010

Wells and Young’s has launched a brand new beer, which will be revealed during National Cask Ale Week.

Young’s London Gold is being launched to coincide with the celebrations of Britain’s national drink, and will be the third permanent cask beer in the Young’s range.

Like Young’s Bitter and Young’s Special, London Gold is Red Tractor accredited. This means that 100% of the barley is UK Farm Assured.

The beer is a light golden beer with a refreshing bite. It has a well rounded floral and citrus flavour with hints of fruit, finished off with a dry, hoppy bitterness.

Marketing director for Wells and Young’s Chris Lewis says: “We are delighted to be launching a light golden beer to bolster the Young’s cask range. Quality is paramount to Young’s beers and we use only the very finest ingredients to make the best tasting 100% British beers. This quality runs right through to the point of purchase with premium, eye catching pump clips and glasses with the Red Tractor message.

“The importance of locally sourced food and drink is becoming more and more important to UK consumers. We conducted research in September 2009, with 3,000 consumers, and the results showed that 50% of people said that quality was more important than price, and 61% of consumers would prefer to eat food sourced in Britain over anywhere else.

“Launching a light golden beer in Cask Ale Week also encourages people who wouldn’t normally drink cask beer to try an accessible beer that is bursting with flavour. Getting new consumers to try cask beer is incredibly important to pubs. Cask Beer pubs perform better than pubs that don’t serve it – so encouraging sampling will add to the bottom line of every pub.”
