Wells Bombardier English Premium Bitter the True Patron Pint of England
17th Oct 2001
England's formost independent family brewer, Charles Wells, takes pride in its company heritage and commitment to brew traditional ales such as Wells Bombardier English Premium Bitter. The company has pledged to continue 'Brewing for England' and to ensure that ale, particuarly Wells Bombardier, remains the preferred pint of England.
Charles Wells wishes to encourage the English Nation into once again
championing their sadly neglected patron saint. Wells Bombardier and
The Royal Society of St George intend to spearhead a campaign to
promote Englishness in all it's glories be it from our heritage and
history to new contemporary pursuits such as film and music. The long
term goal is to make St George's Day as big a celebration in England as
St Patrick's Day is in Ireland. Wells Bombardier English Premium Bitter
will play a vital part in the awareness of this day and aims to be
recognised as the Patron Pint of England.St George is the patron saint of both England and all military men. "Wells Bombardier" is a traditional military name which evokes patriotism, stength and loyalty, the core values that English heritage is built upon. Wells Bombardier is brewed in Bedfordshire which is the heart of middle England and as such the brand is confident in taking ownership of the 23rd April and using it as a vehicle to stroke up patriotic fervour with regard to St George's day, By promoting Wells Bombardier as the patron pint of England, we are stating that ales are the essence of English drinking culture. Wells Bombardier champions the cause for all ale to be recognised and enjoyed as the national drink of England.
Further to this, Wells Bombardier English Premium has begun a long term partnership with The Royal Society of St George in order to raise the awareness of our national day and also to begin lobbying for the 23rd of April to become a bank holiday.
The Royal Society of St George was founded in 1894, just eighteen years after Charles Wells established his brewery in Bedford. The Royal Society of St George is the premier patriotic society of England whose object is to promote 'England & Englishness' and the 'English way of life'.
Of course all good celebrations begin in your local pub. With this in mind, Wells Bombardier is sponsoring license applications in both their 250 pub estate and local free trade outlets to extend their opening hours on Friday 23rd April in order to celebrate the national day in true style. Charles Wells are also encouraging their staff to celebrate St George's day and to take the opportunity to use the 23rd April as an alternative bank holiday.
Nigel McNally, Commercial Director for Charles Wells comments that;
"We have believed for some time the St Georges day should be as celebrated by the English as St Patrick's Day is celebrated by the Irish. I am delighted that Charles Wells Bombardier is at the heart of our crusade to make St George's Day a day to celebrate".
Mr A.W. Naisbitt of The Royal Society of St George added that;
"The society is both honoured and pleased with the opportunity to be associated with such an historic and traditional family run business and we sincerely do hope that this initiative will provide success in raising the profile of this very English of days."
